The Health Service Executive (HSE) Dublin & South East is recruiting a General Operative (Grade Code 5487) for St. Dympna’s Hospital, Carlow. This is a permanent whole-time role within the General Support category. A panel may be formed to fill current and future vacancies across Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford, and Wexford.
About the Role
General Operatives play an essential part in maintaining and supporting HSE facilities. This role involves a wide range of duties including maintenance support, transport, stores operations, and assisting in daily site operations to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
As part of the HSE Dublin & South East team, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality public healthcare services across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance and support tasks across hospital facilities.
- Operate and maintain HSE vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with the collection, delivery, and storage of materials and supplies.
- Support the opening, securing, and general upkeep of work areas.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Participate in emergency or out-of-hours call-outs as required.
- Undertake other related duties to support the smooth running of hospital operations.
Required Qualifications
Essential
- Full, unendorsed Irish Driver’s Licence (Category B).
- Ability to perform general maintenance and manual handling duties.
- Strong awareness of health and safety in a hospital or facilities setting.
- Flexibility regarding working hours and call-out duties.
- Fluent English, both spoken and written.
Preferred
- Previous experience in a hospital, facilities, or maintenance environment.
- Training or certification in manual handling, safe systems of work, or equipment operation.
- Familiarity with HSE procedures and standards.
