The Health Service Executive (HSE) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Statistician (Grade 0381) to join the National Health Intelligence Unit (NHIU), based in Jervis House, Jervis Street, Dublin 1. This is a permanent, whole-time position within the Public Health division.
The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the HSE’s use of data to improve population health outcomes. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Senior Statistician will design, manage, and interpret statistical analyses to inform national public health intelligence, reporting, and evidence-based policy-making.
The NHIU provides high-quality analytical and statistical support across the health service, driving data-informed decision-making that supports the delivery of better healthcare outcomes for Ireland’s population.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead statistical design, modelling, and data analysis across multiple public health projects.
- Develop and maintain data systems and statistical methodologies to enhance national reporting.
- Provide expert statistical advice to health service managers, clinicians, and policy teams.
- Prepare high-quality reports, visualizations, and publications on health indicators and trends.
- Collaborate with data scientists, epidemiologists, and public health professionals.
- Ensure compliance with data governance and ethical standards in health data management.
- Support capacity-building initiatives in statistical literacy across the HSE.
Qualifications and Experience
- A primary degree in statistics, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline (essential).
- A postgraduate qualification in statistics, data science, or epidemiology is desirable.
- A minimum of three years’ relevant experience in statistical analysis, preferably within health, public administration, or research.
- Proven proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, or Python).
- Strong data interpretation, reporting, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex analytical projects and deliver actionable insights.
Salary and Benefits
Per the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (effective 1 August 2025), the Senior Statistician (Grade 0381) salary range is approximately €70,000 – €88,000 per annum, depending on experience and incremental placement.
