Senior House Officer in Ophthalmology – University Hospital Limerick – Limerick

The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid West is inviting applications for the position of Senior House Officer (SHO) in Ophthalmology at University Hospital Limerick. This is a fixed-term wholetime contract open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality ophthalmic care under the supervision of consultants.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, and on-call rotations.
  • Conduct initial patient assessments, diagnosis, and management of eye conditions.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and adhere to HSE clinical governance standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • MB BCh BAO or equivalent medical degree.
  • Full registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
  • Previous hospital experience in ophthalmology or related medical disciplines desirable.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

  • Salary (1 August 2025 HSE Scale): €54,203 – €74,133 per annum (7-point scale).
  • Employment Type: Fixed Term, Wholetime.
  • Contract: Medical & Dental, Grade Code 1007.
