The Health Service Executive (HSE) invites applications for the position of Consultant Histopathologist, reference PAHI5766. This permanent wholetime role involves a shared appointment between BreastCheck – Merrion Unit (20 hours per week) and St Vincent’s University Hospital (17 hours per week), both based in Dublin. The position is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide expert diagnostic histopathology and cytopathology services to BreastCheck and St Vincent’s University Hospital.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to breast cancer screening and pathology review processes.
• Ensure high standards of diagnostic accuracy, turnaround time, and quality control.
• Support the development of pathology services in alignment with national clinical guidelines.
• Engage in clinical governance, audit, teaching, and research activities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care.
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Histopathology.
• Extensive experience in diagnostic histopathology, particularly breast pathology.
• Proven leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Commitment to clinical excellence, quality assurance, and continuous professional development.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: Consultant Histopathologist (126Y)
• Contract type: Permanent, Wholetime
• Working hours: 37 hours per week (20 at BreastCheck Merrion Unit and 17 at St Vincent’s University Hospital)
• Salary: In accordance with the HSE Consolidated Consultant Salary Scales (effective 1 August 2025).
