Sligo University Hospital is recruiting a Staff Midwife to join its maternity services team on a Permanent Wholetime basis. This role offers an excellent opportunity to deliver high-quality, woman-centred midwifery care within a respected acute hospital setting in the HSE West and North West region.
The post is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and supports professional development within a multidisciplinary maternity care environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide safe, effective, and evidence-based midwifery care to women and newborns
• Support women through antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal stages
• Promote normality in childbirth while recognising and responding to complications
• Work collaboratively with obstetric, neonatal, and multidisciplinary teams
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with HSE policies
• Participate in quality improvement, audit, and clinical governance activities
• Support health promotion, breastfeeding, and patient education initiatives
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a Midwife with NMBI (or eligibility to register)
• Demonstrated competence in contemporary midwifery practice
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to continuous professional development
• Experience in an acute maternity setting is desirable
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary in line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales – Staff Midwife (Grade 2143)
• Incremental pay progression subject to HSE terms and conditions
• Permanent Wholetime contract
