The Health Service Executive is inviting expressions of interest for Counsellor Therapist positions within the National Counselling Service across HSE South West. These permanent roles offer an opportunity to deliver evidence-based counselling interventions as part of a multidisciplinary, client-centred service supporting adults and families.
This is an internal competition, open exclusively to eligible public sector health employees, and locations will be confirmed at expression of interest stage.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver high-quality, professional counselling and therapeutic interventions
• Assess client needs and develop appropriate care and treatment plans
• Maintain accurate clinical records in line with HSE standards
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Adhere to ethical, professional, and regulatory standards of practice
• Participate in service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
• Engage in continuous professional development and clinical supervision
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Recognised qualification in counselling or psychotherapy at the required standard
• Eligibility for the grade of Counsellor / Therapist (National Services)
• Demonstrated experience in therapeutic practice within a health or community setting
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and assessment skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Applicants must be current employees of the HSE, TUSLA, Section 38 agencies, or statutory health agencies (WRC Agreement 161867)
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: Counsellor / Therapist (National Services) – Grade Code 3028
• Salary: In line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (1 August 2025)
• Contract Types: Permanent Part-time and Permanent Wholetime
