Letterkenny University Hospital is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing 1 – Operational Out of Hours to provide senior clinical and operational leadership during out-of-hours periods. This permanent whole-time role is critical to ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality patient care across the hospital.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide senior nursing leadership and operational management during out-of-hours periods
• Ensure patient safety, quality of care, and compliance with clinical governance standards
• Act as the senior decision-maker for nursing and operational issues out of hours
• Coordinate staffing, escalation, and resource allocation across clinical areas
• Support and advise nursing, medical, and allied health professionals
• Manage incidents, risk issues, and emergency situations as they arise
• Contribute to service planning, audit, and continuous quality improvement
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a Nurse or Midwife on the NMBI Register
• Significant post-registration clinical and management experience
• Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capability in acute hospital settings
• Strong knowledge of clinical governance, patient safety, and risk management
• Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
• Experience working at senior nursing management level is desirable
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary: Assistant Director of Nursing Band 1 scale €71,408 – €88,123 per annum (pro rata where applicable)
• Contract: Permanent Whole-Time
• Working pattern: Out-of-hours operational leadership rota
