Galway University Hospitals is seeking an experienced Head of Security to provide strategic and operational leadership for hospital security services. This senior role plays a critical part in ensuring a safe, secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors across the hospital campus. The position is offered on a permanent, whole-time basis and is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage all aspects of hospital security services
• Develop and implement security strategies, policies, and procedures
• Ensure compliance with HSE governance, health & safety, and risk frameworks
• Manage security staff performance, training, and rostering
• Liaise with senior management, clinical teams, and external agencies (e.g. An Garda Síochána)
• Oversee incident response, investigations, and reporting
• Contribute to emergency planning and business continuity arrangements
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Significant senior-level experience in security management or a related field
• Proven leadership and people management skills
• Strong knowledge of risk management, health & safety, and incident control
• Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making abilities
• Experience working in complex, high-risk or public-sector environments is desirable

• Salary: In line with HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (August 2025)
• Contract: Permanent Whole-Time
