University Hospital Waterford is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) to provide advanced, evidence-based respiratory nursing care across acute and outpatient settings. This permanent, whole-time role plays a vital part in improving patient outcomes through specialist assessment, education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
This is an excellent opportunity for a registered nurse with strong respiratory expertise to develop specialist services and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within a major regional hospital.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver specialist respiratory nursing care to patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions
• Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis support, and care planning within scope of practice
• Educate patients, families, and carers on respiratory disease management and self-care
• Support and advise nursing and medical colleagues on best practice in respiratory care
• Participate in audit, research, and service development initiatives
• Contribute to staff education and clinical guideline development
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated patient care
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
• Minimum required post-registration experience, including significant experience in respiratory nursing
• Recognised post-registration qualification relevant to respiratory care (essential)
• Demonstrated clinical expertise and leadership at specialist level
• Strong communication, teaching, and organisational skills
• Evidence of continuous professional development
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Grade: Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) – 2632
• Salary: In line with HSE consolidated salary scales (August 2025), commensurate with experience
• Contract: Permanent, whole-time
