HSE employees are due a pay increase on 1 June 2026 under the current public service pay agreement. This is the final general round pay rise under the Public Service Agreement 2024–2026, and it applies to all HSE staff across every grade.
Here is everything you need to know — what you will receive, when it will appear in your pay, and what the new salary figures look like across the most common grades.
The June 2026 Pay Increase — Key Facts
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Increase amount | 1% of annualised basic salary |
| Effective date | 1 June 2026 |
| Who it applies to | All HSE employees (all grades) |
| Agreement | Public Service Agreement 2024–2026 |
| Type | Final general round increase under the current agreement |
| Applied to | Basic pay (annualised basic salary) |
The increase is a 1% general round increase — meaning every HSE employee’s basic salary goes up by 1%, regardless of grade, location, or contract type.
When Will the June 2026 Pay Increase Appear in My Payslip?
The increase is effective from 1 June 2026. For employees paid monthly, you should see the new rate reflected in your June 2026 payslip (paid at the end of June or the first week of July, depending on your payroll schedule).
If your payroll runs slightly behind the effective date, any arrears from 1 June will be backdated and included in the next available payment.
What Does 1% Mean for My Take-Home Pay?
A 1% increase on your gross basic salary translates to:
| Current Annual Salary | Gross Annual Increase | Monthly Increase (Gross) | Weekly Increase (Gross) |
|---|---|---|---|
| €30,000 | €300 | €25 | €5.77 |
| €35,000 | €350 | €29.17 | €6.73 |
| €40,000 | €400 | €33.33 | €7.69 |
| €45,000 | €450 | €37.50 | €8.65 |
| €50,000 | €500 | €41.67 | €9.62 |
| €55,000 | €550 | €45.83 | €10.58 |
| €60,000 | €600 | €50.00 | €11.54 |
| €70,000 | €700 | €58.33 | €13.46 |
| €80,000 | €800 | €66.67 | €15.38 |
After income tax, USC, and PRSI deductions, your net (take-home) increase will be less than the gross figures above. At the standard Irish tax rates, expect to receive approximately 50–60% of the gross increase as net pay (depending on your tax band and personal circumstances).

Is This the Last Pay Rise Under the Current Agreement?
Yes. The 1% increase on 1 June 2026 is the final general round increase under the Public Service Agreement 2024–2026. The agreement covers the period from January 2024 to 30 June 2026.
This means that from 1 July 2026, the current agreement will have expired, and negotiations for a successor pay agreement will either be underway or already concluded.
What Comes After the June 2026 Pay Increase?
The Public Service Agreement 2024–2026 expires on 30 June 2026. A successor agreement will need to be negotiated between:
- The government / Department of Public Expenditure
- Public service unions (INMO, Forsa, SIPTU, IMO, and others)
Unions have already signalled their expectations for pay increases beyond June 2026. The outcome of those negotiations will determine the next round of increases. Watch for announcements from INMO, Forsa, and the Department of Public Expenditure in the second half of 2026.
Previous Pay Increases Under the Public Service Agreement 2024–2026
For context, here is the full schedule of general round increases under the current agreement:
| Date | Increase |
|---|---|
| 1 January 2024 | 2.25% (or €1,125 — whichever is greater) |
| 1 June 2024 | 1% |
| 1 October 2024 | 1% (or €500 — whichever is greater) |
| 1 March 2025 | 2% (or €1,000 — whichever is greater) |
| 1 August 2025 | 1% |
| 1 February 2026 | 1% (or €500 — whichever is greater) |
| 1 June 2026 | 1% (final increase) |
In total, basic pay increases by 9.25% over the lifetime of the agreement (January 2024 – June 2026). The flat-rate floor amounts (€500 or €1,000 alternatives) provided additional benefit to lower-paid staff where the percentage increase would have been less.
A separate local bargaining instalment of 1% of basic pay cost applies from 1 September 2025, allowing unions to pursue additional claims during the agreement period.
Does the June 2026 Increase Apply to All HSE Employees?
Yes. The 1% increase applies to the annualised basic salary of all employees covered by the Public Service Agreement 2024–2026, which includes:
- All HSE directly employed staff (nurses, midwives, HCAs, clerical, management, technical, allied health)
- Section 38 agency staff (voluntary hospitals, disability services funded by the HSE)
- Section 39 staff may not be covered automatically — check with your employer and union
If you are employed by an agency, private hospital, or private homecare company, this increase does not automatically apply to you — your pay is set by your private employer.
Does the Increase Apply to Allowances?
The 1% increase applies to basic pay only. The impact on allowances depends on whether those allowances are calculated as a percentage of basic pay (in which case they increase proportionally) or are fixed-rate amounts (in which case they remain unchanged unless specifically adjusted).
The official HSE HR circular will clarify which allowances are adjusted.
What About the 2026 Increment?
The annual increment (pay scale progression) is a separate matter from the general round pay increase. If your increment date falls in June or later in 2026, you will receive both:
- The 1% general round increase (from 1 June)
- Your annual increment (on your increment date)
These are applied separately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When exactly will I see the June 2026 pay increase in my payslip?
A: It is effective from 1 June 2026. Monthly-paid employees should see the new rate in their June payslip. If your payroll is processed slightly later, arrears from 1 June will be included in the first available payslip.
Q: How much will my take-home pay increase after tax?
A: Approximately 50–60% of the gross increase will reach your take-home pay after income tax, USC, and PRSI. Use the gross increase calculator table above to estimate your position.
Q: Does the 1% increase apply to premium payments like night duty and weekend pay?
A: Premium payments are calculated as a percentage of your hourly basic rate. As your basic rate increases by 1%, your premium payment amounts will also increase slightly. Fixed-rate allowances may not change unless specified in the circular.
Q: Will there be another pay increase after June 2026?
A: The current agreement expires 30 June 2026. Future increases depend on the outcome of negotiations for a successor agreement. No announcement has been made yet.
Q: Does this apply to Section 39 workers?
A: Section 39 organisations (non-statutory agencies funded by the HSE) are not automatically covered by the Public Service Agreement. Contact your employer and union for guidance specific to your organisation.
Q: Where can I find the official pay circular when it is published?
A: Check https://healthservice.hse.ie/staff/pay/ for the latest HR circulars. The June 2026 circular should be published on or before 1 June 2026.
