Cavan Monaghan Hospital is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) to lead the Transit Discharge Lounge, a key nursing role supporting safe, efficient and patient-centred discharge across the hospital. This is a permanent, whole-time post offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to step into a senior clinical management role within HSE Dublin and North East.

About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 will provide professional and clinical leadership within the Transit Discharge Lounge at Cavan Monaghan Hospital. The role is central to coordinating the discharge journey, ensuring patients move safely and smoothly from inpatient wards through to discharge, while supporting hospital-wide patient flow and bed management.

The post-holder will manage the day-to-day running of the unit, lead a multidisciplinary nursing team, and act as a clinical resource for staff, patients and families. The CNM2 plays a pivotal role in driving high standards of nursing care, governance, audit and continuous improvement within the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the clinical and operational management of the Transit Discharge Lounge.
  • Coordinate safe, timely and effective patient discharges in collaboration with ward teams, allied health professionals and discharge coordinators.
  • Provide professional leadership, supervision and mentorship to nursing staff.
  • Ensure nursing practice meets NMBI standards, hospital policies and HSE clinical governance requirements.
  • Support workforce planning, rostering, performance management and staff development.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, clinical audit, risk management and incident reporting.
  • Act as a key liaison between the discharge lounge, inpatient wards and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Promote a patient-centred culture, ensuring dignity, respect and high-quality care at every stage of the discharge process.

Essential Requirements

  • Be registered, or eligible to register, in the General Division of the Active Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to fulfil the functions of the role.
  • Demonstrate significant post-registration nursing experience, including experience relevant to acute care, patient flow or discharge planning.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the area of practice.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • A sound understanding of clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement in an acute hospital setting.

Salary

€62,078 – €73,389 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (General) scale, 11-point scale, plus LSIs of €76,159 and €78,443 where applicable). Salary is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026.
