A permanent, full-time Driver (Doctor-on-Call) position is now available with the HSE Dublin and Midlands region, based at the GP Out of Hours Service in Longford. About the Role
The Driver (Doctor-on-Call) provides essential transport support to the GP Out of Hours service, enabling timely patient care outside of standard GP hours. The successful candidate will work across the Phoenix Centre and Midoc Treatment Centre in Longford, demonstrating a strong appreciation of the needs of people with physical and sensory disabilities.
This role calls for a proactive, self-directed individual capable of managing their own workload effectively, making sound independent decisions, and maintaining consistently high standards of service delivery — all without the need for close supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, timely, and professional driving support for the GP Out of Hours service across the Longford area.
- Transport medical personnel and, where required, patients or clients, in line with service requirements.
- Demonstrate sensitivity and awareness when working with people with physical and sensory disabilities.
- Work independently and on own initiative, managing tasks and responsibilities without close supervision.
- Maintain vehicle standards, cleanliness, and roadworthiness in accordance with HSE policies.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality at all times.
Requirements

Salary
€36,288 – €45,484 per annum (HSE Driver (Doctor-on-Call) scale, 9-point scale). Salary is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026. New entrants to the public service will generally be appointed at the minimum point of the scale.
Location
This post is based across two sites in Longford town: the Phoenix Centre, Dublin Road, Longford and the Midoc Treatment Centre, St Joseph’s Hospital Campus, Dublin Road, Longford. Both sites serve the GP Out of Hours service for the Longford area, forming part of the broader HSE Dublin and Midlands region which encompasses Longford, Westmeath, Offaly, Laois, Kildare, and parts of Dublin South and Wicklow.
