Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan is recruiting a Medical Scientist, Basic Grade to join its laboratory team on a permanent, whole-time basis. This is an open competition welcoming applications from both HSE and non-HSE candidates across all laboratory disciplines.
About the Role
As a Medical Scientist, Basic Grade, you will contribute directly to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic laboratory services. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for performing a broad range of laboratory tests, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified or early-career Medical Scientist to develop professionally within one of the HSE Dublin and North East region’s busy hospital laboratory departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform analytical and diagnostic laboratory tests across assigned disciplines to the highest standards of accuracy and quality.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Ensure the integrity of all samples received, processed, and reported.
- Accurately document results and maintain laboratory records in line with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality management systems within the laboratory.
- Participate in training, CPD, and competency assessment activities as required.
- Adhere to health and safety protocols and infection control guidelines at all times.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for the Medical Scientist, Basic Grade as defined by the HSE. This typically includes holding a relevant primary degree or equivalent qualification in Medical Science (or a cognate discipline) and registration, or eligibility for registration, with CORU. Salary
€45,279 – €75,148 per annum (HSE Medical Scientist scale, 16-point scale, plus LSIs where applicable). Pay is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. New appointees will be placed at point 1 of the scale. Long Service Increments (LSIs) are payable in addition to the top of the standard scale to eligible staff.

Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan is the primary acute hospital serving County Meath and surrounding areas within the HSE Dublin and North East region. The laboratory department provides essential diagnostic services supporting clinical teams across a wide range of specialties. Navan is commutable from Dublin, Drogheda, Trim, and surrounding towns.
