A permanent part-time Specialist Orthodontist vacancy has been advertised by HSE Dublin and South East, based at St. Otteran’s Complex in Waterford. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified orthodontic specialist to join the South East Regional Orthodontic Service and contribute to the delivery of specialist orthodontic care across Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, South Tipperary, and Wexford.
Role Overview
The post is offered at 0.4 WTE on a permanent part-time basis. The successful candidate will provide specialist orthodontic services within the HSE Dublin and South East Regional Orthodontic Service. A panel may be formed from this campaign to fill current and future permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration across the HSE Dublin and South East Region. The lifespan of the panel is subject to ongoing HSE restructuring.
Key Responsibilities
As a Specialist Orthodontist, you will be expected to demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in the field of orthodontics as relevant to the role, including but not limited to:
- Delivery of specialist orthodontic assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for referred patients.
- Provision of comprehensive orthodontic treatment across a range of presenting conditions and complexity levels.
- Participation in multidisciplinary clinical teams and liaison with dental, oral surgery, and other specialist colleagues as required.
- Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical records in line with HSE standards.
- Contributing to the development and improvement of orthodontic services within the region.
- Compliance with all HSE clinical governance, patient safety, and quality assurance frameworks.
Requirements
Candidates must hold the requisite qualifications and specialist registration for the grade of Specialist in Orthodontics. The following will be assessed:
- Full registration with the Dental Council of Ireland as a Specialist in Orthodontics.
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of clinical experience in orthodontics relevant to the responsibilities of this post.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills appropriate to a specialist clinical setting.
- Commitment to patient-centred care, evidence-based practice, and continuing professional development.
Salary
€181,679 per annum (HSE Specialist in Orthodontics scale, Grade 1465, single-point scale, effective 1 June 2026). As this is a 0.4 WTE post, salary is paid on a pro-rata basis.
Location
This post is based at St. Otteran’s Complex, John’s Hill, Waterford, within the HSE Dublin and South East Region. The South East Regional Orthodontic Service serves a wide geographic catchment encompassing Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, South Tipperary, and Wexford, offering the successful candidate a varied and clinically rewarding caseload in a well-established specialist environment.
