A permanent, wholetime Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist / Candidate Clinical Midwife Specialist opportunity in Ultrasonography has arisen across four hospital sites in the HSE Dublin and Midlands region. Role Overview
The Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist / Candidate Clinical Midwife Specialist (Ultrasonography) post is a structured pathway towards full CNS/CMS accreditation within the specialist area of Obstetric Ultrasound and Gynaecology. The successful candidate will demonstrate depth and breadth of clinical experience in this specialist area and will actively engage in the competency development and registration requirements of the role under the Interim ONMS framework. Posts are available across the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, Regional Hospital Mullingar, and Naas General Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialist nursing or midwifery care in the area of Obstetric Ultrasound and Gynaecology.
- Demonstrate and develop depth and breadth of clinical expertise relevant to the specialist area.
- Undertake, or commit within an agreed timeframe to undertake, the Nurse Prescribing of Medicinal Products Certificate.
- Undertake, or commit within an agreed timeframe to undertake, the Nurse Prescribing of Ionising Radiation Certificate.
- Formally apply for entry onto the Interim ONMS Clinical Nurse Specialist / Clinical Midwife Specialist database.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and competency assessment as required under the CNS/CMS candidate framework.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Registered on the active division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) relevant to the role.
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of nursing or midwifery experience in Obstetric Ultrasound and Gynaecology.
- Commitment to undertake the Nurse Prescribing of Medicinal Products Certificate and the Nurse Prescribing of Ionising Radiation Certificate within an agreed timeframe.
- Willingness to formally apply for entry onto the Interim ONMS CNS/CMS database.

Salary
€57,780 – €66,484 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate (General) / Clinical Midwife Specialist Candidate scale, 8-point scale). Based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026. Salary is paid in accordance with the relevant grade: Grade 2697 (CNS Candidate – General) or Grade 2700 (CMS Candidate), which carry identical scales. Starting point is subject to Garda vetting, previous HSE service verification, and the terms of the HRA/DPER circulars on appointment.
