HSE Dublin and South East is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Specialist Mental Health in Psychiatry of Later Life, with permanent vacancies available in Waterford and South Tipperary. This specialist nursing opportunity is suited to an experienced mental health nurse who can contribute advanced clinical expertise, person-centred care and professional leadership within services for older people.

Role Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist Mental Health — Psychiatry of Later Life will provide specialist nursing expertise within multidisciplinary mental health services for older people. The role supports high-quality assessment, care planning, clinical intervention, service coordination and evidence-based practice while contributing to the development of specialist mental health nursing services across the region.

There is currently one permanent whole-time vacancy available in Waterford and one permanent part-time vacancy of 0.92 WTE available in South Tipperary. A panel may also be formed from this campaign to fill current and future permanent and specified-purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration across HSE Dublin and South East.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist mental health nursing expertise for older people within Psychiatry of Later Life services.
  • Support comprehensive assessment, care planning, clinical intervention and review in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Promote person-centred, recovery-focused and evidence-based approaches to mental health care.
  • Provide specialist advice, education and clinical support to patients, families, carers and healthcare colleagues.
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement, clinical governance and professional nursing practice.
  • Maintain and develop specialist knowledge through continuing professional development and reflective practice.

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates must meet the eligibility, professional registration, experience and specialist requirements set out in the official campaign documentation for this Clinical Nurse Specialist Mental Health position.

Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) must relate to the three-year period before the closing date, covering 2023–2026. CPD evidence must be clearly documented and separate from mandatory training requirements.

Salary

€62,699 – €76,921 per annum on the HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health), grade code 2625, 10-point standard incremental scale, plus a Long Service Increment of €79,227 where applicable. The salary figures are based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

Salary for the 0.92 WTE part-time vacancy will be paid on a pro-rata basis according to contracted hours.

Location

The current vacancies are based within HSE Dublin and South East, with one permanent whole-time position in Waterford and one permanent 0.92 WTE position in South Tipperary. The wider campaign may support recruitment across Waterford, South Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, Wicklow and parts of South Dublin, helping strengthen specialist mental health services for older people across the region.

Contract Type

Permanent whole-time and permanent part-time vacancies are currently available. A panel may be formed to fill future permanent and specified-purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration.
