Children’s Health Ireland is recruiting a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in Rheumatology for a specified purpose wholetime position in Dublin. This senior specialist opportunity will support high-quality occupational therapy services for children and young people receiving rheumatology care within a specialist paediatric healthcare environment.

Role Overview

The Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist will contribute specialist occupational therapy expertise to the rheumatology service at Children’s Health Ireland. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting assessment, intervention, care planning and service delivery for children and young people with complex rheumatological needs.

This is a Section 38 position advertised on behalf of Children’s Health Ireland and is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants. Candidates should note that the post is not direct employment with the HSE and that terms and conditions may differ from direct HSE employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention within the rheumatology service.
  • Apply advanced clinical reasoning and specialist occupational therapy expertise to complex patient needs.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, therapy and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Support person-centred care planning for children and young people attending rheumatology services.
  • Contribute to the development, evaluation and continuous improvement of specialist occupational therapy services.
  • Provide clinical leadership, professional guidance and specialist expertise within the occupational therapy service.
  • Maintain high standards of professional practice, clinical documentation and service quality.

Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants must meet the eligibility, professional registration, qualification and experience requirements specified by Children’s Health Ireland for the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist grade. Salary

€72,119 – €83,689 per annum (HSE Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist scale, 9-point scale), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

This vacancy is with a Section 38 employer. The salary information reflects the HSE-aligned scale applicable to grade code 3824.

Location

The position is based with Children’s Health Ireland in Dublin South, within the HSE Dublin and South East health region. The role offers the opportunity to contribute specialist occupational therapy expertise within Ireland’s paediatric healthcare services and to work collaboratively across a multidisciplinary rheumatology care environment.
