University Hospital Waterford is recruiting a Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) for a specified purpose wholetime position in Waterford. This opportunity is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers an experienced nurse the opportunity to develop specialist respiratory nursing expertise within a major acute hospital environment.
Role Overview
The Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) will contribute to the delivery and development of specialist nursing care for patients with respiratory conditions at University Hospital Waterford. The successful candidate will work within the multidisciplinary team, supporting evidence-based care, patient education, clinical coordination and the ongoing development of respiratory nursing services.
As a candidate specialist post, the role provides an opportunity to develop the clinical expertise, leadership capability and specialist competencies required for advanced practice within respiratory nursing, in accordance with the requirements set out in the official Job Specification and campaign documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the delivery of specialist nursing care for patients with respiratory conditions.
- Support assessment, care planning, coordination and evaluation of patient care within the respiratory service.
- Provide education, information and support to patients and their families in relation to respiratory health and disease management.
- Work collaboratively with nursing, medical and allied health professionals across the multidisciplinary team.
- Promote evidence-based nursing practice and contribute to service quality, clinical governance and patient safety.
- Develop the specialist clinical knowledge and competencies required for the Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist pathway.
- Contribute to the continued development and improvement of respiratory services at University Hospital Waterford.

Salary
€57,780 – €68,046 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate (General) scale, 8-point scale). This salary range is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.

The position is based at University Hospital Waterford in County Waterford, within HSE Dublin and South East. The successful candidate will contribute to specialist respiratory nursing care in an acute hospital setting, working with multidisciplinary colleagues to support high-quality patient care and the continued development of respiratory services.
