HSE Mid West is recruiting for Chef II jobs across Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary. This open competition offers opportunities across permanent and specified purpose contracts, with both full-time and part-time positions available within health service catering environments.
Role Overview
The Chef II will contribute to the effective delivery of catering services across HSE Mid West facilities. The role requires relevant experience in the direction and control of catering arrangements within an institution or other comparable establishment.
Successful candidates will support the delivery of safe, efficient and high-quality catering services while working within established food safety, hygiene and operational standards. The Chef II role contributes directly to the quality of services provided to patients, service users and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the organisation, direction and control of catering operations within the assigned service.
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of meals in accordance with required menus, dietary needs and service standards.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness throughout catering operations.
- Support the efficient use of food supplies, equipment and other catering resources.
- Contribute to the organisation of daily kitchen and catering activities.
- Work effectively with catering colleagues and wider multidisciplinary service teams.
- Follow applicable HSE policies, procedures and health and safety requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates should meet the eligibility and qualification requirements for the HSE Chef II With Qualification grade. Applicants must demonstrate the depth and breadth of experience required to contribute to the direction and control of catering arrangements for an institution or other establishment, as relevant to the role.

Salary
€42,486 – €48,853 per annum (HSE Chef II With Qualification scale, 11-point scale), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
For part-time appointments, salary will be paid on a pro-rata basis according to the contracted hours worked.
Location
Positions may be available across HSE Mid West services in Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary. Successful candidates will work within health service catering environments where reliable food preparation and catering operations contribute to the daily care and support of patients and service users.
