We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Psychologist to join our Children’s Disability Network Team in Galway for a 12-month fixed-term position. This is an excellent opportunity for a psychology graduate to gain valuable experience in disability services while making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.
About the Role
As an Assistant Psychologist with our Galway team, you will work within our Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT6) providing psychological support and interventions for children with disabilities and their families. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centered care and evidence-based interventions while developing your professional skills under expert supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychological assessments and screenings under supervision
- Assist in developing and implementing intervention programs for children with disabilities
- Support families through psycho-educational sessions and guidance
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including occupational therapists, speech therapists, and social workers
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and case records
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
- Provide crisis intervention support when required
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Primary degree in Psychology (Level 8) with 2.1 honors or equivalent
- Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI)
- Knowledge of psychological theories and evidence-based interventions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to person-centered care and disability rights
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children or adults with disabilities
- Understanding of disability services and legislation in Ireland
- Experience with psychological assessment tools
- Knowledge of autism spectrum disorders and intellectual disabilities
- Additional training in therapeutic interventions
