About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Basic Grade Physicist to join our Radiotherapy Department at University Hospital Galway. This temporary position runs until August 2026 and offers the chance to work with cutting-edge medical technology while supporting cancer patient care across the West and North West region of Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide physics support for radiotherapy treatment planning and delivery systems
  • Conduct quality assurance measurements and calibrations on radiotherapy equipment
  • Collaborate with medical teams to optimize radiation treatment protocols
  • Maintain and monitor radiation safety standards within the department
  • Assist in commissioning and acceptance testing of new radiotherapy equipment
  • Participate in clinical audits and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support training and development of junior physics staff

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Medical Physics, or related scientific discipline
  • Professional registration or eligibility for registration with relevant regulatory body
  • Experience or training in medical physics, preferably in radiotherapy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Medical Physics
  • Previous experience in a hospital radiotherapy environment
  • Knowledge of radiation protection regulations and guidelines
  • Experience with treatment planning systems and linear accelerators
  • Understanding of quality assurance protocols in radiotherapy
