About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Basic Grade Physicist to join our Radiotherapy Department at University Hospital Galway. This temporary position runs until August 2026 and offers the chance to work with cutting-edge medical technology while supporting cancer patient care across the West and North West region of Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide physics support for radiotherapy treatment planning and delivery systems
- Conduct quality assurance measurements and calibrations on radiotherapy equipment
- Collaborate with medical teams to optimize radiation treatment protocols
- Maintain and monitor radiation safety standards within the department
- Assist in commissioning and acceptance testing of new radiotherapy equipment
- Participate in clinical audits and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support training and development of junior physics staff
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Medical Physics, or related scientific discipline
- Professional registration or eligibility for registration with relevant regulatory body
- Experience or training in medical physics, preferably in radiotherapy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Medical Physics
- Previous experience in a hospital radiotherapy environment
- Knowledge of radiation protection regulations and guidelines
- Experience with treatment planning systems and linear accelerators
- Understanding of quality assurance protocols in radiotherapy
