HSE West and North West, one of Ireland’s leading healthcare providers, is seeking a dedicated Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our specialized Diabetes Pump Service at Galway University Hospitals. About the Role
As a Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner in our Diabetes Pump Service, you will provide specialized care to patients requiring insulin pump therapy while developing advanced clinical skills under expert supervision. This role combines direct patient care, pump technology management, and patient education within Galway’s premier diabetes specialty unit. You will report to the senior nursing team and work collaboratively with endocrinologists and diabetes specialists.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive diabetes pump assessment, initiation, and ongoing management for patients across all age groups
- Conduct detailed patient consultations including pump selection, training, and troubleshooting technical issues
- Develop and implement individualized diabetes management plans incorporating pump therapy protocols
- Deliver specialized patient and family education on insulin pump technology, carbohydrate counting, and glucose monitoring
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary diabetes team including endocrinologists, dietitians, and diabetes nurse specialists
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and pump service databases in compliance with HSE standards
- Participate in continuous professional development activities to progress toward ANP qualification within the 3-year timeframe
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration as a Nurse in the General Division with An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (NMBI)
- Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience in diabetes care relevant to advanced practice nursing
- Strong clinical background in endocrine/diabetes nursing with insulin pump therapy experience preferred
- Excellent communication and patient education skills with ability to work with diverse patient populations
- Commitment to pursuing Advanced Nurse Practitioner qualification and professional development
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with continuous glucose monitoring systems and diabetes technology
- Post-graduate qualification in diabetes care or related specialty
- Experience working within HSE healthcare systems
- Additional diabetes-related certifications or specialized training
