University Hospital Waterford is recruiting a Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) for a specified purpose, wholetime nursing position. This opportunity is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and offers an opportunity to contribute specialist respiratory nursing expertise within a major acute hospital setting in Waterford.
Role Overview
The Candidate Clinical Nurse Specialist (Respiratory) will contribute to the delivery and development of specialist respiratory nursing care at University Hospital Waterford. The successful candidate will work within the multidisciplinary team, supporting high-quality, evidence-informed care for patients with respiratory conditions while progressing within the clinical nurse specialist pathway.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the delivery of specialist nursing care for patients with respiratory conditions.
- Support patient assessment, care planning, education and ongoing management within the respiratory service.
- Work collaboratively with nursing, medical and allied health professionals across the multidisciplinary team.
- Promote evidence-based nursing practice and high standards of patient-centred care.
- Contribute to service development, clinical audit, education and quality improvement initiatives relevant to respiratory care.
- Support continuity of care and effective communication with patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals.

Salary
€62,699 – €76,921 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist Candidate (General), grade code 2697, 10-point scale, plus LSI where applicable). The scale is based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 June 2026.
Location
This position is based at University Hospital Waterford in County Waterford, within HSE Dublin and South East. The role supports specialist respiratory care in an acute hospital environment and contributes to coordinated patient care across clinical services and the wider multidisciplinary team.
