An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police and security service, is seeking an experienced Chief Information Officer to lead digital transformation initiatives in Dublin. This permanent, full-time position offers the opportunity to shape technology strategy for one of Ireland’s most critical public service organizations.

About the Role

The Chief Information Officer will drive data-driven decision making and technology innovation across An Garda Síochána’s operations. You’ll lead digital transformation initiatives while ensuring robust cybersecurity and data governance frameworks. This senior leadership role reports directly to executive leadership and oversees substantial capital and operating budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead digital transformation strategy across all policing operations and administrative functions
  • Oversee data governance programs ensuring quality, security, and compliance with government policies
  • Manage substantial IT budgets demonstrating fiscal responsibility and efficient use of public resources
  • Drive adoption of emerging technologies including AI, cloud computing, and advanced analytics
  • Collaborate with policing leadership to understand operational needs and technology requirements
  • Ensure cybersecurity resilience protecting critical national security and policing data
  • Modernize legacy systems while maintaining business continuity and operational effectiveness

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 10+ years senior IT leadership experience in large, complex organizations
  • Proven track record in digital transformation and technology strategy development
  • Strong background in data governance and analytics program management
  • Experience with cybersecurity frameworks and risk management in sensitive environments
  • Budget management expertise with demonstrated fiscal responsibility
  • Understanding of AI, cloud computing, and modern technology architectures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public sector or government experience with understanding of compliance requirements
  • Experience in security-sensitive environments such as defense, intelligence, or law enforcement
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Professional certifications in cybersecurity, data management, or enterprise architecture
  • Change management expertise in large organizational transformations
