HSE West and North West is recruiting Clerical Officers across its Integrated Health Areas (IHAs) in Galway, Roscommon, and Mayo. This is a panel campaign — successful candidates will be placed on a panel used to fill current and future permanent wholetime Clerical Officer vacancies across both Community and Acute Services in the region.

Role Overview

The Clerical Officer role is a core administrative and patient-facing support position within the HSE. Posts arising from this panel will be based across a range of settings including community health services and acute hospital services within HSE IHA Galway and Roscommon and HSE IHA Mayo. Once placed on the panel, candidates will be contacted by expression of interest when specific posts become available, at which point full role details will be provided.

Panels formed from this competition may also be used to fill posts in other IHA areas across HSE West and North West should vacancies arise.

Responsibilities will vary by post but typically include:

  • Providing administrative and clerical support across assigned departments or services
  • Managing correspondence, records, and filing systems in line with GDPR and HSE data governance requirements
  • Scheduling appointments, managing diaries, and coordinating patient or service user queries
  • Inputting and maintaining accurate data on HSE systems and databases
  • Liaising with clinical, administrative, and management teams to support seamless service delivery
  • Preparing reports, letters, and documents as required
  • Carrying out reception and front-of-house duties where applicable

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively under pressure
  • A commitment to quality, accuracy, and confidentiality
