Portiuncula University Hospital is seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1) to join its Emergency Department team in Ballinasloe, County Galway. This permanent wholetime opportunity offers the chance to lead frontline emergency nursing services within a busy acute hospital environment.
This role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and sits within HSE West and North West.
Job Overview
The Clinical Nurse Manager 1 – Emergency Department will play a key leadership role in the coordination and management of patient care within the Emergency Department. The successful candidate will ensure high standards of clinical practice, patient safety, and service delivery while supporting and supervising nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate nursing care within the Emergency Department.
- Ensure safe, effective, and person-centred patient care delivery.
- Supervise, support, and mentor nursing and healthcare staff.
- Maintain clinical governance, quality assurance, and risk management standards.
- Support service improvement initiatives and patient flow management.
- Ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Participate in staff development, performance management, and training initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Be registered as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Demonstrate depth and breadth of post-registration nursing experience in Emergency Care Nursing relevant to the role.
- Have proven clinical leadership and team management skills.
- Demonstrate strong communication, decision-making, and organisational abilities.
- Be committed to continuous professional development and quality improvement.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
- Grade: Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (Grade Code 2127).
- Contract Type: Permanent Wholetime.
- Salary Scale (effective 1 August 2025): €56,642 – €66,705 per annum (8-point scale)
