Sligo University Hospital, part of the Saolta University Health Care Group, is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager 1 for our Coronary Care Unit. This permanent, full-time position offers the opportunity to lead a specialized cardiac care team while providing exceptional patient care in Sligo’s premier healthcare facility.
About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated Clinical Nurse Manager 1 to join our Coronary Care Unit team in Sligo. This leadership role involves managing clinical operations, supervising nursing staff, and ensuring the highest standards of cardiac care for patients across Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal, and West Cavan. You will report directly to the Assistant Director of Nursing and play a crucial role in our multidisciplinary cardiac care team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and management oversight for the Coronary Care Unit nursing team
- Ensure delivery of evidence-based, patient-centered cardiac care in accordance with HSE standards
- Manage staff scheduling, resource allocation, and daily operational activities within the unit
- Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and outcomes
- Collaborate with consultant cardiologists, medical teams, and allied health professionals
- Supervise and mentor junior nursing staff, providing guidance on complex cardiac cases
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent professional qualification
- Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience with significant coronary/cardiac care experience
- Clinical Nurse Manager 1 qualification or willingness to complete within specified timeframe
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience in acute care settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification in Cardiac/Coronary Care or related specialty
- Experience in staff development and clinical education
- Knowledge of HSE policies, procedures, and quality standards
- Advanced cardiac life support certification (ACLS)
- Previous management experience in a university hospital environment
