University Hospital Limerick is seeking a Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) to join its Colorectal Cancer Co-ordination service in a specified purpose, wholetime capacity. This is a significant leadership role within one of Ireland’s largest acute hospital groups, offering a skilled nurse manager the opportunity to shape and co-ordinate cancer care pathways for patients across the HSE Mid West region.

Role Overview

As CNM2 Colorectal Cancer Co-ordinator, you will provide clinical leadership and management for the delivery of colorectal cancer nursing services at University Hospital Limerick. You will act as a pivotal point of contact for patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team, co-ordinating care across the full colorectal cancer patient pathway — from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. The post carries a strong strategic dimension, requiring engagement with cancer service planning, quality improvement, and cross-site collaboration within the Limerick, Tipperary, and Clare health region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the nursing component of colorectal cancer co-ordination services at University Hospital Limerick, ensuring patient-centred, evidence-based care delivery.
  • Act as the primary nursing contact for colorectal cancer patients, guiding them through diagnosis, treatment planning, and onward care transitions.
  • Co-ordinate activity within the multidisciplinary team, supporting timely decision-making and consistent care standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate service quality, contributing to audit, governance, and cancer service reporting requirements.
  • Provide clinical supervision, support, and leadership to nursing staff involved in cancer care delivery.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community services, specialist teams, and external stakeholders to support seamless patient journeys.
  • Participate in service planning, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives at ward, department, and hospital level.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by NMBI (or eligible for registration).
  • Have the clinical, managerial, and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
  • A minimum of 5 years post-registration experience (or equivalent), with relevant experience in oncology, surgical, or colorectal nursing desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and patient advocacy skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.

Salary

€62,078 – €76,159 per annum (HSE Clinical Nurse Manager 2 scale, 10-point scale, plus 1 LSI of €78,443 where applicable), based on the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales effective 1 February 2026.

Location

University Hospital Limerick is the principal acute hospital for the HSE Mid West, serving a catchment population across Limerick, Tipperary, and Clare. It is part of UL Hospitals Group and functions as a major regional centre for specialist services including cancer care. This post is based in Limerick city and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to colorectal cancer services at one of Ireland’s busiest and most developed hospital campuses.
