The Health Service Executive ( HSE) Dublin and North East region is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Manager II to lead our Transit Discharge Lounge team at Cavan Monaghan Hospital. This permanent wholetime position offers the opportunity to drive excellence in patient flow management and discharge planning across our healthcare services in Cavan and Monaghan.
About the Role
As Clinical Nurse Manager II for the Transit Discharge Lounge, you will provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for this specialized unit focused on optimizing patient flow and ensuring safe, timely discharges. You will lead a dedicated team of healthcare professionals while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety in this critical area of hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Transit Discharge Lounge nursing team, ensuring optimal staffing levels and skill mix
- Oversee patient flow management processes and implement strategies to reduce hospital length of stay
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate safe and timely patient discharges
- Develop and implement evidence-based policies and procedures for discharge planning and patient transition
- Monitor quality indicators and patient satisfaction metrics specific to discharge processes
- Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for nursing staff
- Collaborate with bed management teams to optimize hospital capacity and patient placement
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland ( NMBI)
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5 years post-registration nursing experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Demonstrated experience in patient flow management, discharge planning, or acute care settings
- Current knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management, Healthcare Management, or related field
- Experience with electronic health records and hospital information systems
- Previous experience in Transit Discharge Lounge or similar patient flow management role
- Knowledge of HSE policies and procedures
- Quality improvement and change management experience
