Clinical Nurse Specialist – Galway | HSE

The Health Service Executive (HSE) West and North West is seeking dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialists to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team in Galway City Centre. We currently have 2 permanent, whole-time positions available for experienced mental health professionals committed to supporting young people’s wellbeing.

About the Role

This Clinical Nurse Specialist position offers the opportunity to work within CAMHS Café in Galway City Centre, providing specialized mental health nursing care to children and adolescents. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across various services, utilizing your expertise to deliver comprehensive mental health support and interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized nursing assessment, care planning, and intervention for children and adolescents with mental health needs
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning for vulnerable young people
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior nursing staff
  • Participate in service development initiatives and quality improvement projects
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to case reviews and care planning meetings

Required Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of Mental Health Nursing experience specifically in Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist qualification or equivalent advanced mental health training
  • Strong ability to adapt and work collaboratively with professionals from multiple different services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with young people and families

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health
  • Previous experience working within HSE or similar healthcare organization
  • Knowledge of current mental health legislation and best practice guidelines
  • Experience in crisis intervention and risk management
  • Training in specific therapeutic interventions for young people
