About the Role
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in our Neurology Headache Service, you will play a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals with complex headache disorders and related neurological conditions. Working within our state-of-the-art neurology department, you will contribute to innovative treatment protocols while supporting patients through their neurological healthcare journey in County Sligo and the broader northwest region.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized neurological nursing care for patients with headache disorders, migraines, and related neurological conditions within the headache service unit
- Conduct comprehensive neurological assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients with complex headache presentations
- Administer specialized treatments including botulinum toxin injections, nerve blocks, and other headache-specific therapeutic interventions
- Provide expert clinical guidance to nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members in headache disorder management
- Collaborate closely with consultant neurologists and specialized headache medicine physicians to optimize patient outcomes
- Lead patient education initiatives on headache management, lifestyle modifications, and preventive strategies
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the neurology headache service
Required Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Minimum 5 years post-registration experience with significant neurology or related specialty experience
- Demonstrated experience in neurological nursing care, preferably within headache medicine or pain management
- Strong clinical assessment skills with ability to recognize complex neurological presentations
- Excellent communication skills for patient interaction and multidisciplinary collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in specialized neurology units or headache clinics
- Additional qualifications in neurology nursing, pain management, or headache medicine
- Experience with neurological procedures such as botulinum toxin administration or nerve block assistance
- Knowledge of current evidence-based practices in headache disorder management
