Job Overview

University Hospital Waterford is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist (Infection Prevention and Control Nurse) to join its dedicated healthcare team. This permanent HSE post plays a critical role in safeguarding patients, staff, and visitors through robust infection prevention strategies and evidence-based clinical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead infection prevention and control initiatives across clinical areas.
  • Monitor, audit, and report on infection control standards and practices.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop and deliver staff education and training programmes.
  • Support outbreak management and surveillance activities.
  • Contribute to policy development in line with national HSE guidelines.
  • Promote quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse with active NMBI registration.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in Infection Prevention and Control (or working towards same).
  • Minimum required clinical experience in acute hospital settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection surveillance and audit processes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary is aligned with the HSE Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) Grade 2632 pay scale in accordance with Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales.
