St Vincent’s University Hospital and Mental Health Services Dublin South East are seeking an experienced Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist to join a leading multidisciplinary mental health service in Dublin. This permanent consultant opportunity offers a highly impactful leadership role across community and acute psychiatric services, supporting the delivery of specialist adult mental health care within one of Ireland’s busiest healthcare regions.
This Consultant Psychiatrist job in Dublin provides an excellent opportunity for a senior medical professional to contribute to service development, patient-centred psychiatric care, and clinical leadership within HSE Dublin and South East. The successful candidate will work across Mental Health Services Dublin South East for 26.5 hours per week and St Vincent’s University Hospital for 10.5 hours per week.
Job Overview
The Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist will play a key role in delivering high-quality psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary collaboration within adult mental health services. The role combines acute hospital psychiatry with community mental health responsibilities, supporting integrated patient care and ongoing service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for adult patients.
- Deliver consultant leadership across community and hospital mental health services.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary mental health teams.
- Support the development and implementation of patient-centred care plans.
- Participate in clinical governance, service planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to junior medical staff.
- Contribute to emergency and acute psychiatric services where required.
- Maintain compliance with HSE policies, Mental Health Commission standards, and best clinical practice.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Full registration or eligibility for specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council in Psychiatry.
- Relevant consultant-level experience in General Adult Psychiatry.
- Strong leadership and multidisciplinary team collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and clinical decision-making abilities.
- Commitment to patient safety, service quality, and continuous professional development.
- Experience working within public healthcare or mental health services is highly desirable.

Salary will be aligned with HSE Consultant salary scales and relevant public sector terms and conditions.
