Beaumont Hospital is seeking to appoint a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery to join its established surgical service. This is a senior, permanent appointment within a major academic teaching hospital, offering the opportunity to deliver complex tertiary care while contributing to education, research, and service development at national level.
Table of Contents
Key Responsibilities
• Provide consultant-level clinical care in Upper Gastrointestinal and General Surgery
• Participate in elective and emergency surgical services
• Contribute to multidisciplinary team decision-making and tumour boards
• Supervise, mentor, and teach NCHDs and medical students
• Engage in audit, quality improvement, and clinical governance activities
• Support research, innovation, and academic collaboration where appropriate
• Participate in the consultant on-call rota in line with hospital requirements
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Registration as a Specialist in General Surgery on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council Register
• Demonstrated expertise and higher training in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery
• Eligibility to work in Ireland without restriction
• Proven experience at consultant or equivalent senior level
• Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
• Commitment to continuous professional development and patient safety
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary in line with HSE Consultant Contract and Consolidated Consultant Salary Scales (effective August 2025)
• Permanent whole-time consultant contract

• Participation in agreed on-call arrangements
