The Consultant Geriatric Medicine Cork opportunity offers a senior leadership role across acute and community services within HSE South West. This permanent wholetime post spans Mallow General Hospital, Cork University Hospital and CHO 4, delivering specialist geriatric assessment, treatment and integrated care pathways for older persons.

Job Overview
This Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine role provides specialist clinical leadership in the assessment and management of older adults with complex medical needs. The position spans:
- Mallow General Hospital – 14.5 hours per week
- Cork University Hospital – 4 hours per week
- Community Healthcare Organisation (CHO) 4 – 18.5 hours per week
The role supports integrated care delivery across acute and community environments within HSE South West: Kerry and Cork.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultant-led geriatric assessment and management for older patients
- Deliver acute inpatient and outpatient geriatric medicine services
- Support community-based integrated care initiatives within CHO 4
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings
- Develop and implement evidence-based geriatric care pathways
- Contribute to service planning, audit, governance and quality improvement
- Supervise and mentor NCHDs and multidisciplinary staff
- Participate in on-call and consultant rota arrangements as required
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Irish Medical Council (IMC) in Geriatric Medicine
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications and specialist training in Geriatric Medicine
- Significant experience in acute and/or community geriatric care
- Demonstrated leadership and service development experience
- Strong communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
- Commitment to clinical governance, audit and continuous improvement
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary is aligned with the Consultant General Physician Grade Code 1163 scale under the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales (effective 1 August 2025) .
