Job Overview

This senior consultant role combines clinical expertise and laboratory leadership within a major acute teaching hospital. The successful candidate will deliver consultant-level immunology services while contributing to strategic planning, governance, and service enhancement within pathology and laboratory medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-level clinical and laboratory immunology services.
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
  • Support the development and expansion of immunology laboratory services.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, quality assurance, and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in teaching, research, and academic activities where appropriate.
  • Supervise and mentor NCHDs and laboratory staff.
  • Contribute to service planning and strategic development within pathology.
  • Engage in audit, risk management, and continuous service improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Full registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland (or eligibility for same).
  • Relevant specialist qualification in Immunology.
  • Demonstrated experience in both clinical and laboratory immunology practice.
  • Strong leadership and service development capabilities.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, governance, and patient safety.
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary for this Consultant Immunologist (Clinical and Laboratory) 137T post is aligned with the Consultant salary scales under the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales (1 August 2025) and in accordance with public sector pay policy.
