Job Overview

Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore is seeking a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to provide clinical leadership and deliver high-quality, patient-centred emergency care. The successful candidate will work 37 hours per week as part of a dynamic emergency medicine team serving a large regional population.

This role provides a platform to influence service improvement, mentor junior doctors, and contribute to the strategic development of emergency services within the hospital and wider health region.

Key Responsibilities

Provide consultant-led emergency medical care across all presentations within the Emergency Department.
Lead and supervise multidisciplinary teams in delivering safe, timely, and effective care.
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
Support the education and training of NCHDs and other healthcare professionals.
Contribute to service planning, innovation, and operational management within the Emergency Department.
Engage in on-call and out-of-hours consultant rotas as required.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with HSE policies and standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Full registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in Emergency Medicine (or eligibility for same).
Demonstrated experience at Consultant level or equivalent in Emergency Medicine.
Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
Proven commitment to clinical governance and continuous professional development.
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary for this Consultant in Emergency Medicine Tullamore post is aligned with the HSE Consultant salary scale (effective 1 August 2025) in accordance with public sector pay policy .
