Job Overview

Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore is seeking a Consultant in Emergency Medicine to provide clinical leadership and deliver high-quality, patient-centred emergency care. The successful candidate will work 37 hours per week as part of a dynamic emergency medicine team serving a large regional population.

This role provides a platform to influence service improvement, mentor junior doctors, and contribute to the strategic development of emergency services within the hospital and wider health region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-led emergency medical care across all presentations within the Emergency Department.
  • Lead and supervise multidisciplinary teams in delivering safe, timely, and effective care.
  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support the education and training of NCHDs and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to service planning, innovation, and operational management within the Emergency Department.
  • Engage in on-call and out-of-hours consultant rotas as required.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with HSE policies and standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Full registration on the Specialist Division of the Medical Council of Ireland in Emergency Medicine (or eligibility for same).
  • Demonstrated experience at Consultant level or equivalent in Emergency Medicine.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Proven commitment to clinical governance and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary for this Consultant in Emergency Medicine Tullamore post is aligned with the HSE Consultant salary scale (effective 1 August 2025) in accordance with public sector pay policy .
