A specialist Consultant Psychiatrist opportunity in the Psychiatry of Learning Disability (Adult) is now available at the National Forensic Mental Health Service (NFMHS) in Dublin. This locum post offers an experienced psychiatrist the chance to deliver highly specialised care at the intersection of intellectual disability and forensic psychiatry within one of Ireland’s most distinctive clinical environments.

Role Overview

This is a Specified Purpose Wholetime post, initially for six months, providing highly specialised consultant psychiatrist services within the National Forensic Mental Health Service in both psychiatry of intellectual disability and forensic psychiatry. The role operates under the HSE Dublin and North East region and carries significant clinical responsibility across a nationally designated forensic service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver highly specialised consultant psychiatry services across the dual disciplines of intellectual disability psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.
  • Provide clinical leadership and expert assessment for adults with intellectual disabilities presenting with complex forensic needs.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team care planning, risk assessment, and clinical governance within the NFMHS.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure high standards of patient care in line with HSE and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage collaboratively with legal, social care, and community services as required by the forensic mental health setting.

Salary & Contract

Competitive pay, commensurate with the HSE Consultant Psychiatrist grade. This is a Specified Purpose Wholetime post, initially for six months.

Location

The post is based at the National Forensic Mental Health Service, Dublin North, within the HSE Dublin and North East region. The NFMHS is Ireland’s national specialist service for people with mental disorder who come into contact with the criminal justice system, providing inpatient, community, and liaison forensic psychiatry services on a nationwide basis.
