Emergency Medicine SHO Mayo University Hospital

Mayo University Hospital is seeking an Emergency Medicine Senior House Officer (SHO) for a July 2026 rotation under HSE West and North West. This fixed-term wholetime post offers excellent clinical exposure within a busy Emergency Department serving the region. This Emergency Medicine SHO Mayo opportunity is ideal for doctors looking to build experience in acute and emergency care within the Irish public health service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Participate in resuscitation and acute emergency care under consultant supervision.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and electronic records.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Participate in on-call rotas as required.
  • Adhere to hospital clinical governance and patient safety protocols.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Active registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) – applications without active IMC will not be accepted.
  • Valid English language examination (where applicable).
  • For first HSE role, OET or IELTS dated within two years at the date of application (where applicable).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience in Emergency Medicine (desirable).
  • Part 1 of the MRCEM examination (desirable).
  • Doctors who completed the International Medical Graduate Training Initiative (Pakistan & Sudan) must have returned to their home country for at least 12 months before applying.

  • Salary Scale: €54,203 – €74,133 per annum (Senior House Officer scale, effective 1 August 2025)
