Following the recent appointment of a new CEO, the Health and Safety Authority is implementing an ambitious Strategy Statement and Programme of Work. This Assistant Chief Executive role offers a rare opportunity to shape Ireland’s occupational safety agenda at national level during a period of significant organisational growth and transformation.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the post holder will provide strategic leadership across workplace inspection, enforcement, and occupational safety policy, ensuring high standards of safety, health, and welfare for workers nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Occupational Safety Division
• Lead nationwide workplace inspection and enforcement programmes
• Drive innovative approaches to occupational safety risk management
• Oversee policy development and effective regulatory implementation
• Lead, motivate, and develop a large multi-functional professional workforce
• Manage change programmes aligned with the Authority’s strategic objectives
• Engage proactively with employers, workers, unions, and key stakeholders
• Contribute as a senior member of the HSA executive leadership team
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Extensive senior leadership experience in a complex organisation
• Proven track record managing large, multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong background in inspection, enforcement, regulation, or policy delivery
• Highly developed change management and communication skills
• Strategic mindset with strong operational execution capability
• Experience gained in either the public or private sector
• Demonstrated commitment to improving workplace safety and health outcomes
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
• Salary: Senior public service executive scale (on application)
• Working hours: Full-time executive appointment

Location & Employer Information
The Health and Safety Authority is Ireland’s national body for workplace safety and health. The Occupational Safety Division is central to its mission, leading enforcement, inspections, and stakeholder engagement across all sectors of the economy.
This role may be based at HSA Headquarters in Dublin or one of seven regional offices, with hybrid working arrangements supported.
