Job Overview
Assistant Director of Nursing Waterford – Medical Directorate & Cancer Services at University Hospital Waterford. This permanent wholetime leadership role offers the opportunity to shape clinical excellence, governance, and patient-centred care within a dynamic acute hospital setting.
The post holder will support the Director of Nursing in delivering high-quality, safe, and effective services across medical and oncology specialties while driving continuous improvement and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational nursing leadership across the Medical Directorate and Cancer Services.
- Support the Director of Nursing in achieving quality, safety, and performance targets.
- Ensure compliance with national standards, HIQA requirements, and HSE policies.
- Lead service development initiatives and quality improvement programmes.
- Oversee workforce planning, rostering, and resource allocation.
- Promote a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Support education, mentorship, and professional development of nursing staff.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Registration as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Significant senior nursing management experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and change management capability.
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance and quality standards.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification (desirable).
