University Hospital Limerick is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Neonatologist Limerick to join its specialist neonatal team within HSE Mid West. This is a Permanent Wholetime position offering the opportunity to lead, innovate and deliver high-quality neonatal care in a major acute teaching hospital.

Job Overview

University Hospital Limerick, part of HSE Mid West (Limerick, Tipperary and Clare), is recruiting a Consultant Neonatologist to provide expert neonatal care across the region. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care to newborn infants.

This is a senior leadership role offering significant clinical responsibility, academic engagement, and service development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consultant-level neonatal care within the Neonatal Unit.
  • Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical decision-making.
  • Contribute to service planning, governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and support NCHDs and junior medical staff.
  • Participate in on-call and out-of-hours consultant rotas as required.
  • Ensure compliance with national clinical guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Engage in teaching, training, and research activities where appropriate.
  • Support the strategic development of neonatal services across HSE Mid West.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the relevant specialty.
  • Recognised qualification in Neonatology or Paediatrics with subspecialty expertise in Neonatology.
  • Extensive experience in consultant-level neonatal practice.
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and quality improvement.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary will be aligned with the February 2026 HSE Consultant consolidated salary scales, in accordance with public sector pay policy and Department of Health Circular 1/2025 .
