The Data Protection Governance Lead (Grade VIII) is a senior leadership role within the National Data Protection Office, supporting organisation-wide compliance with data protection legislation. This role plays a critical part in strengthening governance, assurance, and best practice across national health services.
Working at a strategic level, the post holder will influence policy, advise senior leaders, and embed a strong data protection culture across the health system.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop national data protection governance frameworks and policies
• Provide expert advice on GDPR, Data Protection Acts, and regulatory compliance
• Support senior management on data protection risk, assurance, and reporting
• Oversee data protection audits, reviews, and governance controls
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including the Data Protection Commission
• Contribute to organisational training and awareness programmes
• Support national initiatives and complex data protection projects
Required Skills & Qualifications
• Relevant third-level qualification (Level 8 or higher) in law, data protection, governance, ICT, or related discipline
• Significant senior-level experience in data protection, governance, or regulatory compliance
• In-depth knowledge of GDPR and Irish data protection legislation
• Proven ability to operate at senior management and national level
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience within large, complex organisations is highly desirable
