University Hospital Limerick is seeking an experienced nursing leader to join its senior management team as Director of Nursing 1 Assistant. This is a specified purpose, wholetime leadership role within HSE Mid West Acute Services, offering the opportunity to influence clinical standards, governance, and patient care at one of Ireland’s busiest acute hospitals.

This Director of Nursing 1 Assistant Limerick opportunity is ideal for a dynamic senior nurse ready to contribute strategically to service delivery and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Chief Director of Nursing and Midwifery in the strategic and operational management of nursing services.
Provide professional leadership and ensure high standards of patient care across assigned services.
Drive quality improvement initiatives, patient safety standards, and clinical governance frameworks.
Lead workforce planning, resource management, and service development initiatives.
Ensure compliance with HSE policies, regulatory standards, and best practice guidelines.
Contribute to service planning, performance monitoring, and achievement of organisational objectives.
Promote multidisciplinary collaboration and effective communication across departments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Have a minimum of 7 years post-registration experience, with at least 5 years in a senior nursing management role.
Demonstrate proven leadership and change management experience in an acute hospital setting.
Possess strong clinical governance, risk management, and quality assurance expertise.
Hold a relevant postgraduate qualification (Level 8 or higher desirable).
Demonstrate excellent communication, strategic planning, and organisational skills.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Grade: Director of Nursing 1 – Assistant (Grade Code 2910).
Salary Scale (1 August 2025): €71,408 – €88,123 per annum (9-point scale).
Contract Type: Specified Purpose, Wholetime.
