Job Overview

The Director of Public Health Nursing will provide strategic, operational and professional leadership for Public Health Nursing services across Cork within HSE South West. The role focuses on quality improvement, governance, workforce leadership and service integration within Primary Care.

As a senior nursing leader, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to enhance patient outcomes and community health services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Public Health Nursing services across Cork.
  • Lead service planning, development, and implementation aligned with national and regional priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance, quality and patient safety standards.
  • Manage workforce planning, performance management and professional development of nursing staff.
  • Oversee budgetary control and resource allocation within agreed frameworks.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated primary care services.
  • Drive service improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice.
  • Represent Public Health Nursing services at regional and national forums.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Significant senior management experience within public health or community nursing.
  • Demonstrated leadership, strategic planning and change management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of governance, quality assurance and patient safety frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification (management/leadership/public health desirable).
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary is aligned with the HSE Consolidated Salary Scales (1 August 2025) for Grade Code 2801 Director of Public Health Nursing:

  • €92,855 – €106,959 per annum (6-point scale)
  • Permanent Wholetime Contract

Salary scale in accordance with Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales .
