Job Overview
The Maintenance Craftsman Technician Carpenter is responsible for delivering high-quality carpentry maintenance, repair and installation services across hospital buildings and facilities. This permanent wholetime role offers long-term stability within the public health service.
You will work as part of the Estates and Maintenance team, supporting safe, compliant and efficient hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out carpentry repairs and maintenance works across hospital facilities
- Install, maintain and repair doors, windows, fittings and structural elements
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests in clinical and non-clinical areas
- Ensure all works comply with health and safety standards
- Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in safe working order
- Assist with planned preventative maintenance programmes
- Drive HSE vehicles where required to support service needs
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Recognised trade qualification in Carpentry
- Relevant post-qualification experience in maintenance or building services
- Full clean Driver’s Licence – Category B (essential)
- SOLAS Safe Pass Health & Safety Awareness Training Programme completed, or willingness to complete upon appointment
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
This role is graded as Maintenance Craftsman/Technician Grade 5606 under HSE General Support.
Salary is aligned with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales (1 August 2025) and will be paid in accordance with public sector pay policy and incremental progression.
