The HSE Mid West is recruiting a Registrar in Orthopaedics for the July 2026 rotation, based between University Hospital Limerick and Croom Hospital. This role offers broad exposure to acute and elective orthopaedic services within a high-volume regional setting, supporting career progression in surgical training.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic care
• Participate in trauma and elective orthopaedic services
• Support consultants in theatre, clinics, and ward rounds
• Contribute to on-call rotas in line with NCHD requirements
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records
• Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
• Support teaching and supervision of junior doctors where required

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)
• Minimum 2 years’ Senior House Officer (SHO) experience
• Demonstrated experience in surgery / orthopaedic surgery
• IELTS (overall band minimum 7.0) or OET (overall result minimum B), where applicable
Desirable: MRCP / MRCPI

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Salary Scale (Registrar 1538): €68,891 – €81,126 per annum (1 August 2025 rates), depending on incremental point
• On-call and premium payments in accordance with HSE/NCHD agreements
• 30 days annual leave (pro-rata)
• Access to structured training, supervision, and HSE pension scheme
• Working hours and rota arrangements as per NCHD contract

Location & Employer Information

This post is delivered across two key HSE Mid West sites, providing exposure to both acute tertiary services and specialist orthopaedic care. The employer is the Health Service Executive, Ireland’s national public health service, delivering care across hospital and community settings.
