Abbott Laboratories, a global healthcare leader, is hiring a Senior IT Specialist to join our Diabetes Care Division in Donegal. You’ll support IT systems in a high-tech manufacturing environment, driving digital integration, data management, and infrastructure reliability for advanced medical devices.

About the Role

As a Senior IT Specialist, you’ll manage the IT systems supporting production of the FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors. This role blends hands-on technical troubleshooting with strategic systems support in a regulated manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform IT and business process support for manufacturing operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues; lead preventive action and root-cause analysis.
  • Lead software upgrades, integration projects, and network configurations.
  • Manage and document system validation and change control processes.
  • Support cybersecurity and system performance monitoring.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams on applications, projects, and process improvement.
  • Provide 24×7 on-call production support as part of a rotation.

Required Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computing, IT, or related discipline (Engineering, Manufacturing, or Quality).
  • Experience in manufacturing or GMP environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with SQL, scripting, and data management.
  • Knowledge of Windows servers, MS Office, and ERP/MES systems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred

  • SAP or QMS experience.
  • Oracle knowledge and web application development familiarity.
  • Experience supporting validated systems in medical device or pharma industries.
