Job Overview

University Hospital Waterford is seeking a highly experienced Senior Medical Social Worker to join its multidisciplinary team on a permanent wholetime basis. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering comprehensive medical social work services within an acute hospital setting in Waterford.

Key Responsibilities

Provide advanced medical social work assessments and interventions to patients and families.
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care planning and discharge processes.
Offer crisis intervention, counselling, and advocacy within a hospital environment.
Lead and support complex case management in line with hospital policies and best practice.
Supervise and mentor junior social work staff where required.
Ensure compliance with professional standards, legislation, and HSE policies.
Maintain accurate and timely case documentation and reporting.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Relevant professional qualification in Social Work recognised by CORU.
Registration with CORU (or eligibility to register).
Significant post-qualification experience in a medical or acute healthcare setting.
Demonstrated experience in complex case management.
Strong communication, assessment, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Commitment to professional development and service improvement.

Salary, Benefits & Working Hours

Grade: Social Worker – Senior Medical (3019).
