Job Overview
University Hospital Waterford is seeking a highly experienced Senior Medical Social Worker to join its multidisciplinary team on a permanent wholetime basis. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering comprehensive medical social work services within an acute hospital setting in Waterford.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced medical social work assessments and interventions to patients and families.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support patient care planning and discharge processes.
- Offer crisis intervention, counselling, and advocacy within a hospital environment.
- Lead and support complex case management in line with hospital policies and best practice.
- Supervise and mentor junior social work staff where required.
- Ensure compliance with professional standards, legislation, and HSE policies.
- Maintain accurate and timely case documentation and reporting.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant professional qualification in Social Work recognised by CORU.
- Registration with CORU (or eligibility to register).
- Significant post-qualification experience in a medical or acute healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated experience in complex case management.
- Strong communication, assessment, and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
- Commitment to professional development and service improvement.
