A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior House Officer (Orthopaedics) to join Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore from July 2026. This SHO Orthopaedics Tullamore post offers valuable surgical experience within a supportive multidisciplinary team environment.
This role is open to both HSE and non-HSE applicants and is ideal for doctors seeking to further develop their orthopaedic surgical experience within a busy regional hospital setting.
Job Overview
The successful candidate will, under the supervision of the Consultant / Clinical Director / Employer, participate in and deliver a high-quality orthopaedic healthcare service. You will gain hands-on clinical experience while contributing to patient-centred care in line with professional and organisational standards.
Appointees will actively engage in continuing professional education and development throughout the appointment.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the delivery of high-quality orthopaedic clinical services.
- Work under consultant supervision in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Assess, diagnose and manage orthopaedic patients in accordance with best practice.
- Contribute to ward rounds, theatre sessions and on-call rotas as required.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
- Engage in continuing medical education and professional development.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant clinical experience in Ireland (essential).
- Active registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
- Demonstrated interest or experience in Orthopaedic Surgery.
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Additional Eligibility Requirement:
- Doctors who have completed the International Medical Graduate Training Initiative (Pakistan & Sudan) must have returned to their home country for a minimum of 12 months immediately following graduation before being eligible to apply.
Salary, Benefits & Working Hours
Salary is aligned with the Senior House Officer (Grade 1012) payscale under the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales (effective 1 August 2025).
The current annual salary scale ranges from:
- €54,203 – €74,133 (depending on point placement)
